The warm clear waters of the Adriatic are most inviting during the summer months when tourism is at it's highest.  The Istrian peninsula has a long and varied history and reminders of it's past are to be seen in many of it's main towns including a very well preserved Roman amphitheatre in Pula which is well worth a visit as are the Brijuni Islands.  President Tito made the Brijun Islands his personal State Summer Residence, where he entertained heads of state along with film stars including Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, today it is a museum and national park.
